Frequently Asked Questions

  • For General Home Treatments, pyrethroid sprays and powders are our product of choice. With low toxicity, these products are classified by the Department of Primary Industry as having a "low potential for causing harm..."

Feel free to ask the Technician what product SWAT is using and use this link to find out more about the product if you would prefer to check it out yourself at: www.pestgenie.com.au

  • The pyrethroid /synthetic pyrethroid products used for General Home Treatments are safe for you, your family and your 4-legged friends. Most products have a mild toxicity level similar to that of dishwashing detergent. *Note fish do not react well to Pyrethroid Sprays.

  • Just let the Technician know if you have fish indoors or in your yard as he will either cover the tank or work around the area to avoid the pond.

  • You should see the effects of the spray immediately and start finding deceased insects as they contact the treated surfaces. Remember also that small insects will die immediately. Larger ones may take longer.

In unusual circumstances it may take the insects a while to contact the spray, particularly spiders. Aim not to vacuum or remove spider webs for at least 10 days. If there is still any insect activity inside after 3 weeks without insects dying, please contact SWAT with details. In these circumstances, an alternative solution or product may be needed.

  • Pyrethroid products break down in UV light, and exposure to other weather elements can also influence its longevity. The contact spray also has different breakdown rates depending on the surface to which it is applied.

SWAT guarantees our General Home Treatment will last a minimum of 6 months and most homes do not see new insect activity for up to 12 months, sometimes even longer.

  • The pyrethroid products that SWAT uses for general interior treatments for flies, mosquitos, fleas etc is clear and water-based so it will not stain ceilings, paintwork or soft furnishings (depending on water quality on premises). If walls are already dirty or smoke-stained they may water-streak. Discuss this with the Technician if you are concerned.

  • Ideally, the external surface of your home will be dry when the Technician applies the product. Porous surfaces absorb better if they are dry. If it is raining the Technician will usually either:

    • Contact you to re-book the job

    • May treat the inside of your home, and do the outside at another time (particularly if you have an infestation)

    • Contact the Technician if he hasn't called you (as it may not be raining where he is, and he may be unaware).

    • Place all pillows under the doona or blankets.

    • Put away toothbrushes, food and cover fruit bowls.

    • Cover fish. Always inform SWAT if you have fish on your property. We will make sure you have covered them sufficiently.

    • Let SWAT know about any specific pest problem areas.

    • SWAT usually needs between 20 minutes and 1 hour to complete the job depending on the size of your premises..

    • You do not need to be home at the time the service is provided, as long as we can access your property as well as water if needed.

    • If you are onsite we will ask you and your family along with any pets to wait outside until the job is completed. Of course, you may choose to leave for a short period and will can certainly call you when the job is completed.

    • You can re-enter the premises approximately 1 hour post completion of the job, depending on drying time.

    • Wipe down benches and food preparation surfaces.

    • Do not vacuum or mop for 2-3 days after treatment.

    • Do NOT remove spider webs (cobwebs). Wait a minimum of 7-10 days before removing these to allow spiders time to make contact with the product.
